About Us
WAND of Northern Indiana is a chapter of the national organization WAND. Because we recognize democracy as the best tool for significant change, we encourage democratic participation through a wide range of activities and events.
Since our inception in 2001, we’ve organized the following (sometimes partnering with other organizations):
- peace demonstrations
- letter-writing campaigns
- anti-Iraq-war radio and print ads
- meet-the-candidate events
- local political forum/debate
- monthly Coffee Klatches
- federal budget workshops
- State of the Union Address parties
- Presidential debate parties
- trips to Washington for WAND’s national conference
Chapter’s Origin:
The Northern Indiana Chapter of WAND was founded in 2001 by a small group of local women, including longtime peace activists, Doloris Cogan and Karen Jacob. Prior to founding the local WAND chapter, Cogan brought other peace-related organizations to Michiana such as Women for Meaningful Summits, and Peace Links.
